Princess Sophie of France's Life in a Timeline

1734: Sophie was born at the Palace of Versailles.

1736: Sophie's younger sister, Thérèse, was born at the Palace of Versailles.

1737: Sophie's youngest sister, Louise, was born at the Palace of Versailles.

1738: Sophie and her sisters Victoire, Thérèse, and Louise are sent to the Abbey of Fontevraud. Sophie was three years old when they arrived at the Abbey, Victoire was five years old, Thérèse was two years old, and Louise was ten months.

1744: Thérèse dies at the age of eight, due to smallpox, at the Abbey of Fontevraud.

1748: Madame de Pompadour, the king's mistress, sends artist Jean-Marc Nattier to Fontevraud to paint Sophie, Victoire and Louise in secret. A posthumous portrait of Thérèse could have also been painted by Jean-Marc Nattier during this time, also.

1748: In October, the portraits were shown to their parents.

1748: Victoire leaves Fontevraud.

1750: Sophie and Louise are allowed to leave Fontevraud.

1750: Sophie and Louise return to the Palace of Versailles.

1752: Sophie's elder sister, Henriette, dies.

1753: Sophie signs her signature at the marriage of Louis Joseph, Prince of Condé, and Charlotte de Rohan.

1759: Sophie's eldest sister, Élisabeth, dies.

1761: Sophie visits Paris, France, for the first time.

1764: Madame de Pompadour dies.

1765: Sophie's elder brother, Louis, dies.

1768: Sophie's mother dies.

1768: Sophie's father takes up another maîtresse-en-titre, Madame du Barry.

1770: Sophie's youngest sister, Louise, left Versailles for the Convent of Saint Denis.

1770: Sophie's nephew, Louis-Auguste, marries Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria (better known by the French version of her name: Marie Antoinette). Marie Antoinette becomes the new Dauphine of France, and grows a close relationship between Sophie and her sisters at the royal court.

1772: The close relationship between Marie Antoinette, Sophie, and her sisters soil after Adélaïde (Sophie's elder sister) attempted to lead Marie Antoinette into humiliating Madame du Barry. The plan, with the support of Victoire and Sophie, never carried out.

1774: Sophie's father, the King of France, dies from smallpox, thus, the heir to the throne, Louis-Auguste, ascends to throne as the new king. Marie Antoinette is now the Queen of France. Sophie, Adélaïde and Victoire catch smallpox, however, they survive.

1777: Sophie and her elder sister Adélaïde both receive the title Duchess of Louvois by their nephew, Louis, King of France.

1778: Queen Marie Antoinette gives birth to her first child, Marie-Thérèse Charlotte.

1781: Sophie writes her will and testament.

1781: Queen Marie Antoinette gives birth to her second child, Louis Joseph.

1782: Sophie dies, at the age of forty-seven, due to dropsy.
